Lukomir cleaned up after images of litter alarmed the public
Plastic and glass bottles, cans and bags covered the slopes near Lukomir. Local resident Duran Masleša and activists organised a clean-up.

Photos from the slopes near Lukomir, sent in by a reader, showed plastic and glass bottles, cans, bags and other packaging scattered across the ground and rocks around the highest permanently inhabited village in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The clean-up was started by local resident Duran Masleša, and activists gathered volunteers. The association Misli o prirodi publicly praised the action as a positive end to the story of the illegal dump.
As the activists point out, occasional clean-ups are not enough: the area needs waste collection, clear rules for visitors and supervision. We ask all visitors to Lukomir and Umoljani to take their rubbish home with them.
