Lukomir in autumn: a village where time slows down
The highest permanently inhabited village in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at almost 1,500 metres, has been a national monument since 2009 — with views over the Rakitnica canyon.

Lukomir lies on the slopes of Bjelašnica at almost 1,500 m above sea level and is the highest permanently inhabited village in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since 2009 it has been a national monument.
Stone houses, wooden doors, dry-stone walls and small yards keep a sense of age and continuity, and the village looks out over the Rakitnica canyon — steep cliffs, ridges and a wide horizon. It is best to walk the village paths without hurrying, photograph the stone architecture and enjoy the autumn colours on the slopes.
Most visitors reach Lukomir from Umoljani, and the village has a restaurant, Kod Mujage.
